The original _base_ball artsy book was part of the _Io_ series edited by Richard grossinger. (If anybody has one to sell or swap. . . ). The _base_ball epic is _Ko, or A Season on Earth_ by Kenneth Koch, written in Byron'sDon Juan stanza and first published in 1959. Byron doesn't have much to worry about though. And now _base_ball poems seem hopelessly precious, pro forma, etc. D. Latane'

:       As part of a - don't laugh please - course on The Economics of : Sports , I have taken to reading a poem each Monday about sports.  I have : done the obvious ones, Casey at the Bat and _base_ball's Sad Lexicon : ( Tinker to Evers to Chance ), and would appreciate any suggestions that : others may have (please tell me the sources as well).I would not be : averse to short examples of nice prose (Grantland Rice's classic piece on : The Four Horsemen of Notre Dame comes to mind).  Many thanks in advance. :

Kenneth Patchen had a fairly famous poem about _base_ball.  Very short. Look up The Arm Chair Book of _base_ball .  I believe there were a couple of poems in there.  But this book also has a long article on Ty Cobb's last days.  One of the greatest pieces I have ever read.

I think you'll find The Origin of _base_ball, which can be found in Kenneth Patchen's SELECTED POEMS (New Directions), to be quite relevant to your course work.
