Alcohol production | would be farm _base_d to include the cost of distillation, production, etc. | Probably the distilling would be most active during winter months when | excess(waste) heat from fermentation could warm barns, and planting, etc are | waiting for spring, etc.. The farm would be required to burn alcohol as it's | only fuel from its own production. A test farm, would make the fuel per acre | balance obvious. No subsidies allowed. End of argument, either way... | | steve spence < This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it wrote in message | | | From: < This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it | To: < This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it | Subject: [biofuel] Keith, If ya don't mind, | Date: Monday, October 15, 2001 5:41 PM | | I'd like to refute Dr. Pimental again. balance obvious. No subsidies allowed. End of argument, either way... I think if you plan to inflict such complex schemes on farmers you should at least offer them the option of growing grass and using horses or oxen instead. Michael Saunby

I'm new to this, so I've got lots of questions; some of them may seem quite stupid, so bear with me please.

Ian St. John < This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it wrote in message | I suggest that the economics could be verified easily I suggest that it already has. OK. Since there are some BIG companies that have an interest in seeing liquid fuel be created from fodder it may be time to pull the government support (with exceptions for valid R&D and, perhaps, special tax treatment for capital expenditures) and let these BIG companies try to make a profit. I suspect that they will NOT try.   There is still PLENTY of oil out there. For the time being it doesn't make sense to convert food to fuel.
