The police have been conditioned that the only tool they have is the taser. When you think the only tool you have is a hammer, you begin to think the world is a nail. How have they been brainwashed like that? The police are trained in Use of Force and in accordance with the Use of Force Continuum. They are supposed to respond with the level of force appropriate to the threat they are facing. The only brainwashing they may have had would be about the safety of the taser.  Bear in mind that police are subject to prosecution for excessive use of force, and I think any cop who uses a taser inappropriately should be prosecuted. That being said, and in few of the Use of Force Continuum, neither the Vancouver airport incident or old Mr. Lasser are in violation on that.
