camera and checked bag Camera backup as carry on - Anyone have any problems?
Has anyone not been allowed to carry on a camera backpack? I find the idea of placing 2 SLR's and 3 lenses, flash, filters, etc., etc. (An expensive mess of gear) in a checked bag. The concern is the fact that: a) The gear is fragile and these bags are man-handled b) This is an invitation for theft for a dishonest employee working the scanner. Your recent experiences are asppreciated.

Wife and I flew out of Anchorage the 18th (after a week delay due to the attacks) with two Lowe Pro Photo Trekker AW's containing 4 bodies, two 500 f/4's and several shorter lenses as carry-on. I was worried we'd have problems in the new security climate but the camera bags passed thru the x-ray quickly and we didn't even have to open them for a hand search, and they also did a hand-check on 150 rolls of film so I wouldn't have to send film thru the x-ray machine. We had hand-carried two tripods (legs only) on the way up a month earlier but decided they looked too much like clubs so wrapped them up in our luggage for the trip home. I don't think anything has changed regarding carrying on cameras and film. At least not in Anchorage. Bill
