This may actually be the OS that stops the growth of Microshaft. I stopped at W/98SE. I didn't go for XP and I certainly will not be running Vista. Sadly, this will have little effect on the average consumer, the majority of which are just going to buy the required hardware to be in compliance .  An argument could be made that this reeks of collusion, but with our lawmakers bought and payed for by the entertainment industry, don't count on any help from them. I am campaigning installing Kubuntu . This may actually be the OS that stops the growth of Microshaft. I stopped at W/98SE. I didn't go for XP and I certainly will not be running Vista. Just the same for me. Went from Win 98se to Kubuntu mid last year. Monika.    I am running XP at home and in my office, but those came installed on the machines as new.  I will never try to upgrade a version of Winows ever again, and it may be time for me to look more deeply into Linux.  You can't turn around without running into something related to Linux or Open Source nowadays.

I will never try to upgrade a version of Winows ever again, and it may be time for me to look more deeply into Linux.  You can't turn around without running into something related to Linux or Open Source nowadays. Just go grab a CD and install it. If you run defrag on the Windows partition that you want to make smaller so that the rest of that space goes towards Linux, the installer will be able to do that (i.e. reduce the size) automatically during the installation. I know Ubuntu/Kubuntu can do this and I believe SuSE, Fedora and Mandrake (all targeted to Desktop users and people switching from Windows) probably do so, too. If you have one partition that can be deleted entirely, it's even easier. And all Linux installers that I am aware of configure Grub (or LiLo) so that you can choose between booting Windows and Linux at start up. You can first get a Live CD and play around with that to see what version you like best (e.g. if you prefer Ubuntu with Gnome or Kubuntu with KDE). Monika.
