dental schools in ga Dental Amalgam Related Illness- a mini FAQ..
Any information would greatly be appreciated. I'm a senior Pre-Dentistry major and my soon to be fiance is in her fourth semester in Dental School.  She's ranked about #9 out of a class of 64 and her grades are great.  There's a big problem though, she goes to a private school that's very exspensive and on top of that they dont give many grants there.  She still owes money on her tuition from the fall 96 semester.  I've been searching the NET furiouslly for grants and scholarships but havent really come up with much.  I find it very hard to believe that a dental student with her grades cant get financial aid.  So far everything has been paid for with loans(over $45,000).  She has no real credit history because we both have been students all our lives and because of this she's been turned down for two loans.  She's willing at this point to loose credits and transfer to a bigger dental school if she could get some financial aid.   If anyone knows of a way of assistance please reply!! optimistic, struggling dental students Perhaps Hormel would be interesting in floating a grant to struggling students who promote Spam?

A sorry situation has developed in this country When I started dental school in 1979 I was able to receive 3% loans and about $20,000 in service-cancellable loans provided I practiced in a rural setting (which was my intention at any rate). These sources of money have dried up or have market-rate interest. In addition, the state government decided, in a big publicity stunt, that students attending professional schools should be required to pay a much higher tuition fee than other state-supported institutions. That meant that my tuition went from a bargain $200 per quarter to $700 a quarter (and now I believe it is $2000 or more at my school). The result of this lack of subsidised support is that most of the students that I come in contact with graduate with educational debt of $50-70000 and the situation is getting worse. The monetary return in dentistry simply isn't great enough to support this.  I am told by my Army buddies that some Captains (new graduates) are being allowed to have a compassionate discharge because their military pay isn't enough to pay for their school debt. Either the student must accept this debt load or we will come to the point where only the children of the very well-to-do will be able to go to dental schools. Neither situation seems acceptable to me. Any thoughts out there?  Solutions? W. Dewey Kitchens, DMD Grovetown, Ga.
