I have read somewhere that it is wrong to feed guinea-pigs frshly cut grass. Is that really a fact or did I dream it? If it is a fact, I can't see why cut grass is bad for them but uncut grass is OK??? Thanks in advance I believe it goes back to when grass was cut by petrol or diesel mowers and the resulting noxious fumes and possible oil contamination etc could harm your piggy friend no end.  I don't think it is as much a problem these days with electric mowers (especially Flymos') which don't add any extra contaminants to the cut grass.  However, I'd be very wary of giving them cut grass from an electric mower if you oil any of the mower parts.

If you make any major change to their diet it'll upset their digestive system. Secondly, a large quantity of grass is likely to give them wind - you have to limit the amount for them because otherwise they will usually pig out . If they're living outside on grass every day they'll get a natural balance and eat the right amount for themselves. If you're talking about lawn clippings, if you cut your lawn properly the grass pieces will be about a centimetre long and quickly turn to mush and start to go off. Apply common sense! Other grass cuttings often contain plants other than grass which are best avoided - in a feeding frenzy they'll scoff the lot. If you piggie does get wind, human gripe water is the cure.
