six flags season pass prices
2004 will be the first season that I'll be buying a Six Flags season pass.  The thing I noticed though is that the price of one is different _base_d on the park you buy the pass at.  But what's odd about it is that the prices don't match what I expect. I would think that SFMM would have the highest price, but no!  Right now, it's $52.99, while at Enchanted Village near Seattle, WA, its a comparitavely steep $79.99, while at SFMW and SFWoA it is a very inexpensive $49.99. Why would the price at their flagship park be so much LOWER than the price at one of their smaller parks?  They're all really the same pass, as well!  I could understand pricing differences because the pass is expected to be used the most at the home park it was purchased, but then I'd expect SFMM to have the highest price, and EV to be the lowest. -DJ

Hard to say.  For the longest time up this way, The Great Escape had the highest-priced season passes among the three northeasternmost SF parks (Riverside/SFNE, SFGAdv, TGE).  But this year, at least, it's all turned upside down - TGE is the cheapest at $50, then SFNE at $54.99, and the minimum for SFGAdv is $69.99 (which includes the safari but not the waterpark; for all three, it's $99.99!). Wonder how much say the individual parks have into the pricing of their respective passes?  Surely corporate must have some minimum in mind, but beyond that, it may be the parks themselves trying to balance between supply, demand, the desire to make up for previous attendance shortfalls, and who-knows-what-else. But you're definitely right about passes being used most at their home parks.  The average SF passholder doesn't think about jetting halfway across the country just to visit another SF park.   We are definitely the exception here, not the rule. -Shawn Mamros (who hasn't had an SF season pass since 2000) E-mail to: mamros -at- mit dot edu

Supply. Demand. SFMM has to compete with the Knott's and Disneylands. Knott's has been known to throw out some great deals (I think the season passes were $55-60

-Shawn Mamros (who hasn't had an SF season pass since 2000) You hate Six Flags that much? My current plans for 2004 will have me visiting 4 Six Flags parks (SFMM, SFMW, SFA, and Enchanted Village), so a season pass is going to be a wise investment. Yeah, I bash Six Flags a lot because of the way they run their parks, but they still have some good coasters that I haven't ridden. -DJ
