Today my physics teacher (Who I think is a big junkie) was talking about how his mimosa tree always died...  I think it's 'cause he's always taking the roots off...         The mimosa tree your physics teacher is talking about is most likely a Silk Tree Mimosa, also know as False Mimosa .  It is quite a common tree in the US, particularly in the South.  It does grow as far north as Long Island on the East coast though.  The tree is not native to North America, but a transplant from Persia.  In many parts of the US it is considered a weed tree.  The bark, leaves and seeds contain epinephrine and serotonin, but no DMT or related substances, even though it is in the same broad family as Mimosa Hostilis.  The Chinese sometimes use the young leaves as an ingredient in stir frie.  The tree is not particularly long-lived, it's average life span is only about 15 years. I am not sure whether mimosa hostilis is a tree or a vine though. Sorry, but I haven't done much research on it as I don't expect to find it anywhere in North America.  I am more interested in finding Desmanthus Illinoensis, as that is a DMT-containing plant which DOES grow in North America.  And that too is related to mimosa hostilis...
