After seeing a podiatrist I'm finally clued into the fact that I have cavus feet with high arches and (seriously) require shoes made with a curved last.  Ideally I'd like cross trainers but I'd settle for running shoes if I could find them. Visiting local stores and manufacturer's websites has produced no joy. I'm almost resigned to buying custom-made shoes but I'd like to avoid that if possible for my athletic shoes because they wear out quickly and because of the high cost. The last salesman I saw at a running store claimed the manufactures stopped making curved last shoes ~1.5 years ago (except for racing models, which I don't want).  Is this true?  What on earth are those of us with high arches and curved feet expected to do? I'm feeling a little desperate at this point and will appreciate any pointers and/or sympathy.  :-O Bob

The last salesman I saw at a running store claimed the manufactures stopped making curved last shoes ~1.5 years ago (except for racing models, which I don't want).  Is this true?   As I peruse the RoadRunner catalog it appears true. I can only suspect that runners with very curved feet are rare and there is no money in making them. Just for the hell of it I would call Roadrunner 1-800-551-5558 and see what they say. What I don't know and they may be able to tell you, is that the degree of curvature of the last may widely vary such that there is a semi curved that may help you out.

So what brought you to the witch Dr to begin with? You don't need custom shoes, just the right ones for your feet. Once you go custom, you never go back. Chiropractors rock man! Bill R.

I'm feeling a little desperate at this point and will appreciate any pointers and/or sympathy.  :-O Bob Bob Why don't you want racers?  There is increasing evidence that flat shoes (ie without the ridiculous high heels of many modern training shoes) cause less damage.  Also, you can often get them quite cheap (they are rarely very expensive to start with, and often in the bargain bin).  I now do all my training in flats and am loving it.  I now do all my training in flats and am loving it. And I know some that that went directly into the injury pool. I'm suggesting this is something that needs slow adaptation.
