running network Sub-spool error when running network wizard
I have three office computers that all use XP.  They were originally on a LAN via a Switch but all dialed up to the Internet independantly.  (Don't ask me why, that was before I came on the scene.)  They now all share a DSL connection via a Router that goes to the orignally installed switch and can all access the internet just fine.  The problem that I am having is reconfiguring the LAN so that the three computers all see each other again for sharing files.   Running the Network setup wizard results in a Spooler SubSystem App... error message.  I have tried disabling all of the firewall and virus software, rebooting into Diagnostic Setup only, and configuring the network manually without any success.  I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the file and Print sharing components as a last resort but that also had no effect.   Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.   I've broken up my email address below to try and thwart the spam bots.  Just remove the <!

Hello Spooler Sub System Error is a printer related error Disable all printers until after the network is made or Open Printers & Faxes go to Properties of each printer set  to Sharing, name them, each different if more then one. Tick to Spool Doc's Remove all network connections in My Network Places, except the one you are using, disable the ones you are not using but do not wish to remove. Make sure simple file sharing is enabled. StartControl PanelFolder OptionsViewtick Use Simple File Sharing First open the Properties of My Network Places, delete or disable all connections except your internet connection, (all computers). Right click your IC go to Properties the Local Area Connection Properties will open, install Client for MS Network, File & Print Sharing, Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)(on this protocol click Properties select Obtain IP and DNS Automatically), install NW_link_ IPX/SPX/NetBios Protocol(this will allow the firewall to be enabled), click OK. Now back on your Network Connections click on the left of the page, Setup a Small Home Network, the wizard will open then just follow the instructions, when you get to the point to Create a Floppy then do so, then you just run it on the other computer,(insert the floppy in the other puter open My Computer double click A drive then double click the _link_ that appears. Be sure to name your Workgroup (not domain) the same and give each computer a different name. To hook up Printer sharing just install the printer on the host computer go to Printer and Faxes right click your printer, then go to Sharing, then set it to Share then name it, click OK. Go to the other computer open Printer & Faxes on the left of the page click add a printer then follow the instructions. Choose connect to this computer. (type) your host puter nameprinter name

Thank you to both Ron and Haus.  I tried both suggestions independently of each other.  (With Ron's, the beauty of the situation is that I don't have to remove all the printers!)   Success running the wizard as long as I choose the other option for the opening screen and then choose the hub configuration option (due to the switch).   I can even create and run the network setup disk on the other computers successfully but am still unable to see the other computers.   I believe that my problem lies with the odd switch setup and am resigned to ripping that system out and starting over from scratch. (There are 3 computers but each station currently uses two cable connects to the switch and attempts to bypass the switch and just use the built- in jacks have proved futile.) Thanks for the new dos commands though! light
