I haven't been able to sleep on my stomach for *years* - maybe since my mid- 30's?? Hurts my lower back; is just too uncomfortable. Gee, I stopped sleeping on my stomach about 12 years ago and just recently started again because my hip REALLY hurts when I am on my side. Have you tried sleeping with a pillow between your knees? I have two extra king pillows that I use primarily as body-supports while sleeping, and it's made a huge difference in waking hip pain (I sleep on a water bed, so face-down is pretty much out of the question...) Hmmmm. Maybe I need a BIGGER pillow and not a smaller one. I'll try that tonight. The goal is to get your legs (and thus hips) more parallel when you sleep, instead of vee'd in toward each other as they tend to on their own. I like the really long pillows (not quite body pillows, but almost) because I can also fling my upper arm over them, which relieves some stress I accumulate in the shoulders during the day. *grin* Good thing I mostly sleep alone - with all these pillows, there's no room for anyone else!

Actually I often sleep in what is called the recovery position - half on my side, half turned towards my front, one leg bent up in front of me, one leg straight(ish). I rarely sleep alone - I have two cats after all!

: Have you stretched your piriformis and your psoas today? My WHATS? The most important muscles in your body! (I didn't know what the piriformis was 4 years ago, either.) The psoas is your groin muscle. It's right in the center of your body

You want your hips to be perfectly square, and separating your knees is one way to do it.

Those body pillows look like they take up a goodly amount of bed. I do have a question about the pillow approach. When you turn from one side to the other, isn't it rather a large production to get rearranged? I think that is the main reason why I stopped using my little pillow. Jean B.

Why, though, is this called the recovery position ? Jean B.
