Actually I often sleep in what is called the recovery position - half on my side, half turned towards my front, one leg bent up in front of me, one leg straight(ish). I rarely sleep alone - I have two cats after all! I know exactly the position you are talking about because I have ended up in this position several nights. It is not as bad as being on my stomach. Why, though, is this called the recovery position ? Because it is the position you place a casualty in to recover if they are unconscious - they won't accidentally choke themselves.

I do have a question about the pillow approach. When you turn from one side to the other, isn't it rather a large production to get rearranged? I think that is the main reason why I stopped using my little pillow. I use two - one on either side of the bed. I flip, but the pillows don't. But, as I said, I usually sleep alone.

I haven't been able to sleep on my stomach for *years* - maybe since my mid- 30's?? Hurts my lower back; is just too uncomfortable. Gee, I stopped sleeping on my stomach about 12 years ago and just recently started again because my hip REALLY hurts when I am on my side. Have you tried sleeping with a pillow between your knees? I have two extra king pillows that I use primarily as body-supports while sleeping, and it's made a huge difference in waking hip pain (I sleep on a water bed, so face-down is pretty much out of the question...) Hmmmm. Maybe I need a BIGGER pillow and not a smaller one. I'll try that tonight. The goal is to get your legs (and thus hips) more parallel when you sleep, instead of vee'd in toward each other as they tend to on their own. I like the really long pillows (not quite body pillows, but almost) because I can also fling my upper arm over them, which relieves some stress I accumulate in the shoulders during the day. *grin* Good thing I mostly sleep alone - with all these pillows, there's no room for anyone else! Those body pillows look like they take up a goodly amount of bed. I do have a question about the pillow approach. When you turn from one side to the other, isn't it rather a large production to get rearranged? I think that is the main reason why I stopped using my little pillow. I use a standard pillow under my legs when I lay on my back and sometimes when on my side. When I don't want it, I kick it over to hubbys side of the bed. Sometimes when I reach for it, he is using it...oh well!! sue

I use one between or under my knees. Hubster uses one between his knees and clutches another one to his chest. Chile and Gordo (our Chihuahuas) have trained us to put extra pillows at the head of the bed, with a throw to cover them. If we don't, they nudge us off the head pillows. Sometimes they do anyhow. FurPaw This has me laughing...my hubby also uses a pillow to cover his head. What has happened to the days where husband and wife would hold each other, instead of extra pillows....(VBG). sue

What has happened to the days where husband and wife would hold each other, instead of extra pillows....(VBG). In my case, hot flashes happened. Thirty seconds after snuggling up, I have to chuck off all the covers and flap my nightshirt. Since I married a nocturnal heat-seeking missile, sometimes the, ummm, middle-of-the-night negotiations get a little intense. But we like sharing sleeping quarters and the sleep deprivation has to get pretty bad before one of us heads for the guest room for the night. Regards, Laura Blanchard
