I had been telling my husband that sleeping on his stomach could be contributing to his back if not hip problems. He wouldn't listen to me..said it didn't matter. I finally decided to give up. When his back really started bothering him,I noticed that he quit sleeping on his stomach. Whether coincidence or not, since he quit doing that, his back and hip problems have eased considerably. The hip problem had cleared up to a large degree after taking glucosamine, but I think now with the new sleeping regimen,it's even better. Has anyone else noticed a connection between spinal/hip problems and sleeping position? Sharon who asks...Is the hokie pokie really what it's all about?

I haven't been able to sleep on my stomach for *years* - maybe since my mid- 30's??  Hurts my lower back; is just too uncomfortable. Cathy

Has anyone else noticed a connection between spinal/hip problems and sleeping position? Definitely.  If I sleep with two pillows my neck may bother me, but not with one.  I like goose down, 'cause it's easy to scrunch around to the most comfortable position. Lately I've been sleeping with a pillow between my knees, when I sleep on my side.  That makes a big difference in hip comfort. Without the pillow, after a while a hip starts twinging.  And I put the pillow under my knees when I'm on my back - it seems to keep my spine flatter.  (Sometimes the pillow goes on top of my feet, when they get cold).  When I wake up and turn over in the middle of the night, all this entails quite a bit of thrashing around to get everything properly positioned, of course. Sleeping on your stomach is very bad for a bad back. I have been told this my doctors and read it in books about back problems. I do sleep on my stomach at times, but it hurts to much if I am having sciatic problems. sue
