Some things for which the consequences are, if we let the action stand, FAR more unacceptable than allowing the 'criminal' to go free. This is one of them. What they should have done is to use the evidence they have gathered, arrest the men responsible, and negotiate with the rest of them, setting down rules that the FLDS could live with

I am _object_ing to the illegal and improper methods used by the state of Texas to go after a group of people that the Texas CPS has already admitted make good parents of children that show no signs of abuse. ** this does not add up. The only way it 'doesn't add up' is if you are using a binary system. Unfortunately for you, there aren't just two sides to this issue, Rich....and _object_ing to the state's method of handling this is NOT an automatic approval of the FLDS. ** Combatting religious fanaticism is never pretty. Having the government break all the laws and rules that we have been living by for two hundred years in order to go after a specific religious group is even uglier. ** There needs to be a public trial. There does. But the children need to be given back to their mothers right now, and the people who are going to be charged with something need to be arrested.

religion, but see NOTHING about the rights of the children to be safe. Why would you think children are not safe just because they are growing up in an ethnic minority that has a different opinion than yours about when a child becomes a woman? Clearly religious rights trumps the safety and needs of children every time to you, Red, and JW. The state of Texas is violating the human rights of everyone when it uses the violence of the state in order to impose an age of consent law. It is violating the rights of the sexually mature women that it labels children, and it is violating the rights of the older men. Age of consent laws are utterly corrupt and entirely evil. It is no small wonder that I have such respect for Jesus. Does your Jesus teach you to use the violence inherent in government to oppress peaceable non-believers to live in accordance with your version of Christianity?
