Pimentel argues that corn should be used for food, not energy. In fact, ethanol plants produce food and energy. You'll notice that his research accounts for coproducts (such as gluten meal, gluten feed, and corn oil.) Wouldn't it appear that Pimentel indeed agrees that ethanol plants produce both food and energy? To insinuate otherwise is quite disingenuous.
