I am still quite confused. Am having a new install done, by a CEDIA dealer. Room is quite long, and he has suggested putting surrounds in the rear corners of the rooms and a pair of surrounds about midway on the sidewalls. Can anyone explain exactly the difference between DD-EX/DTS-ES and 7.1ch sound ? As I understand it, it is basically the same as 5.1ch but your amp works out when sounds lie between rear surrounds and front speakers and plays this sound to the side wall surrounds ? Have I got this right ? What type of speakers should I be using on the surrounds, dipoles, bipoles, monopoles ? What sort of amps should I be looking at ? Any web references out there to help ? As rear speakers are in the rear corners of the room I understand DD-EX, DTS-ES will not be possible, but I am told it will not make a great deal of difference as the room is rectangular... Room is 7.25m x 3.90m approx....screen going on 3.90cm front wall, so room longer than it is wide, seating will prob end up around midway down the room with a projection system. Any points, help, hints or tips gratefully received.

Each type has its' good and bad points, so being aware of them may help you decide. This can also have a bearing on screen size/type and seating distance. Having said that, sometimes knowing the bad points can be a bad thing, as you'll probably not have noticed them until someone pointed them out to you. :O) You should do lots of reading on the subject (www.avsforum.com is excellent for info), then you'll know what you need and wont need to ask anyone else. :O) Gary.
