you are over-ruled by the very man who first allowed the taser to be used by law enforcement in Canada- the former Attorney General of BC, Ujjal Dosanjh. He testified for the Briarwood Inquiry that the testimony given by Smith is unacceptable , in that Smith is challenging the experts to prove thet the taser is harmful when the purpose of the inquiry is to have the company prove that the taser in fact ISNT. Further, Dosanjh said that at the time that he approved of their use, he was misinformed both of their risks (the taser was supposedly over-researched to attest their safety), and in the manner in which the taser would be used. Speaking SPECIFICALLY on the cases of the 82 year old man, the use of tasers on fare evaders and on Dziekansky, he stated that their use in such cases is unacceptable. This man was once BC's top cop, and is now a Liberal Cabinet Minister on Public Safety. That's quite a feat, since he is a Liberal and we have a Conservative government. Never the less, he is a typical politician, playing partisan games to appeal to his electorate and blaming current problems on the party in power. actually, he admitted that he was the first one in canada to approve of the tasers, while he was BC NDP Attorney General. He admitted that while he approved of their use, he was misinformed as to their safety AND in how they would be used.

If he was in a position to approve them and public opinion turns against that tool he claims he was misled.

Dosanjh's only motive here is, and always was- to be credible. There have been attempts to bribe him, to control him, and these attempts have failed (my own memory is longer than the general public, and can hold such detail). The public memory doesnt know, or has forgotten, who first signed off on the taser- but Dosanjh doesnt hide behind this memory loss, nor does he attempt to blame anyone else. Basically he says that like the Public, he too was deceived, and is less than impressed by taser's presentation. public opinion....i think that Dosanjh may be the most influencing factor in this issue.

We have countless  problems with the Taser use in North America.  The current (de-evolving) RCMP culture is just one of many problems within the police universe that must be addressed.  Unfortunately, the RCMP is immune to the recommendations of this Taser Comittee and rarely follows any outside bodie's recommendation unless they feel it's convenient or benefits them.   As far as Dosanj goes, I think a lot of people are unhappy with Dosanj's candort, not only about this issue but in general.  He's not playing the political game as well as his other counter-parts. For the most part, he's got morals, integrity, and common-sense. I fear that his honestly will harm him in one day if he stays in politics. We need Dosanj as Prime Minister.  He can definitely improve things unlike the monkeys we have in office now.  By being PM, he would have police protection. The taser manufacture has already influenced the commission.  We're Canada and we're nothing like those American's...we're complacent. Tasers are here to stay and their use, at best, will only be marginally reduced.
