adjectives that describe your personality Personality Changable?
Hello: I've been reading Keirsey's personality website and bought the book Please Understand Me to study.  I was wondering if it is possible to change a personality?  Has there been any studies done on this?  What are the results and effects? Bill Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Simple answer: Your MBTI type today will be your MBTI type till you croak, BUT You may experience significant development of your 2nd, 3rd and 4th functions, as well as your non-prefered function attitudes . For example, an ENFP at 55 may find it much easier to balance the checkbook and get to work on time than he did at 25... Etc... ____________________________ DARE

Bill Religious transformation is a good example of personality change. Personality can change through a process called individuation in Jungian psychology. Yes, personality can change or be remobilized in its ongoing development in therapy. Lots of good studies. Most therapy centers on practice. New habits can be formed by concentrating on them and working towards them .. especially in a theraputic environment such as: school, jail, gymnasium, marriage, church, etc. There is nothing static about personality at all. Basically it can be viewed as a set of ongoing debates that rise to the occassion when needed, and changes rapidly as one ages and learns. As far as the 'alphabet' personality stuff, that is a scam .. and, would you like to buy a bridge?

In what sense is MBTI a scam?
It tries to reduce personality to a stereotype no different from racial stereotypes. It would have us think of ourselves as cubbyholed regards preferences and abilities. It is easily undone by cooperative experiences with others which help us see them as individuals. It has become a source of false authority in the workplace, and can damage ones career. It cannot be adapted to other cultures for exactly the same reason that IQ tests have not been. It cannot be adapted for purposes of medical treatment and therapy, but many are led to believe that it can. It is a source of discrimination in the workplace. It is cult-like regards the conversion of its followers, many of whom are not intellectually equiped to see it for what it is and keep it in the funny papers with Scorpio.
