Hi, I'm planning to get the passport for my minor son (he's LPR) using the Child Citizenship Act of 2000. In the State Department website, the requirements are clear: 1) Proof of the child''s relationship to the American citizen parent. For the biological child of the American citizen this will be a certified copy of the foreign birth certificate (and translation if not in English). 2) The child''s foreign passport showing the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services in the Department of Homeland Security (BCIS) I-551 stamp in the passport, or the child''s permanent resident card (green card); 3) Proof of identity of the American citizen parent(s) 4) Passport application, passport photographs and fees. My question: Do I have to SHOW my son's documents or do they have to KEEP the originals?   Do they accept photocopies? It has been so difficult to get his documents and I don't want to loose them.   I don't like the idea to loose his passport with the I-551 stamp.  Ouch!
