1920s: Hulton Getty Picture Collection - Nick Yapp (Editor) I bought this book recently and thought that I would mention it here.  It is part of a Decades of the 20th Century series of books. It consists of photos and captions of many areas of life, including entertainment, from the 1920s. The pages are about 6 x 6.5 inches, so the photos aren't being presented at their best, but they are still interesting. Most of the photos appear to be from Europe and I've not seen very many of these before. The book is published by Barnes and Noble ( www.bn.com ) and I picked it up in one of their stores. It cost $9, and was supposedly marked down from $40 or something like that. It is available through their web site. I'm looking for the stars, the flappers,the celebriites etc. Especially Clara Bow, Rudolph Valentino, Pola Negri, Louise Brooks and Theda Bara

I'm looking for the stars, the flappers,the celebriites etc. Especially Clara Bow, Rudolph Valentino, Pola Negri, Louise Brooks and Theda Bara I'm not an expert on that (royalty questions), but there are a number on authors on this group who may have experience with this. I think they get their photos straight from regular printed photos, rather than any web site (which usually has low resolution to cut download time). My impression is that zillions of photos were given out to publicize the stars/movies of the past. They wanted them spread as widely as possible, so no one has ever bothered to assert rights for those photos. Of course there are other photos that are part of a photographer's business, and they get inherited, sold, etc., frequently as a group.
