Okay fellow plane crazy peoples, it's time once again for Uncle Otto's Weird Flying Dreams (actually I just made that up). Please share with us your craziest dreams about planes and flying, so we can all know that you, too, are probably not fit to captain a 747. I'll start... In one dream, I had to meet someone at an airport I'd never been to before, to discuss some kind of flight training. I drove to the airport, and around and around it, but could not find an entrance. I kept pulling into various driveways that turned out to be dead ends or locked gates. Finally I scaled a fence and walked around this huge confusing mess of an airport, watching planes take off until I woke up. In another dream I took off in a Piper Archer (or some such low-wing aircraft) from a vacant schoolyard, flying the pattern around and around, quite low over the houses next to the schoolyard, each time making my approach too high or too fast and having to go around. As I was flying, people started arriving on the field to start a soccer game! I was getting very worried that I would not be able to land. In another dream, I flew to a small local airport. (I think this is the first flying dream I've had where the flight ended normally.) It turned out there was some kind of airshow and conference going on, so I went to the registration booth. The lady handed me a form to fill out that was longer than a 1040 tax form! The rest of this dream was spent struggling to fill out this very confusing form so I could see the airshow. I recall being able to see strange Bart Rutan-_style_ planes parked in the distance that I wanted so badly to go see, but that registration form went on and on. Okay, your turn!

I kept driving around the airport and I was afraid I was going to miss my airplane. No... wait!! That wasn't a dream. It was at the new Munich airport about a year after it opened. (I did finally find it.) John Robbins

John Robbins Well, I guess I can describe this although it's a real nightmare rather than a dream.  I take off in the flight school's Piper Warrior and head for the practice area. Something goes wrong.  The plane becomes uncontrollable and I crash.  The dream ends just before the crash so I have no idea what the end result looked like.  I should add that I'm convinced that this is the result of having some difficult surgery one week after I got my PPL.  I assume it's just natural that the dream involves me in a plane since I had just spent a year working on that license.  The recovery from the surgery was much more difficult than I expected it to be.  Had to have the bedroom light on all night for a month or 2.  I would wake up several times at night but made up for it during the day sometimes. Hopefully none of you will have such nightmares especially about flying!  Before taking lessons I probably dreamed about flying an SR-71 to various places.  Now that was much more fun! BTW did the guy who asked about kidney stones affecting his medical certificate ever find out anything? Al

Please share with us your : craziest dreams about planes and flying, so we can all know that you, too, : are probably not fit to captain a 747. I'll start... OK, I'll add one I had as a teenage. At that time I fantasised a bit about the idea of a flying car... In this short dream, I was driving a car that looked sort of like a Concorde, with the delta-wind and one jet in the tail. I made a turn on the road with this car and accellerated, and sure enough took off in aeroplane mode. As I was climbing, the clouds broke up revealing the moon, but with redness in clouds around it. Then, the film burnt up and I woke up. Yep, even us non-pilots can have dreams of flying an areoplane. I still have a fantasy of owning a Flying Car(tm), though not necessarily Concorde-shaped.

: especially about flying!  Before taking lessons I : probably dreamed about flying an SR-71 to various : places.  Now that was much more fun! That would be cool. Waste a lot of petrol, but you get there pretty quick. Not to mention it's hard for Tomcats to try to pull you over .
