But $5-$10 an hour is a bit low. At least _base_ the wage on what the worker would get. Now _that_ I would tend to agree with (though it depends on the local wage averages). But the insurance company might still make arguments such as but the worker would have social security taken out, so this just adjusts it down to what it would be without that added , and so on. Like I said, be prepared with some good arguments if you don't like the numbers you hear. And keep your cool - nothing turns off an adjustor like being cussed out - trust me on that one

Claim adjustors do have some negotiation room on claims in most cases, so if you present your case well enough, you might be able to get more than their initial offer. Just make sure you can give a good justification for it, because the adjustor will have to justify it in their claim file, which will probably be reviewed by their supervisor, who will want to know the whys and wherefores of why the initial offer got increased.
