cavalier misfire Vauxhall Cavalier(G Reg) Misfiring

Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3 'G' reg 1.6LS The car has just started judder badly due to engine misfiring. It is not just a single cylinder misfire, but is as if I am flicking the accelerator on and off. Whilst accelerating hard it does not misfire. I wonder if it is a semi blocked fuel filter? It seems fine for the first half mile from cold - is that sign that the fuel filter has refilled and provides enough fuel for the first half mile? Any advice - gratefully received.

if its ok under heavy acceleration (ie when it needs most fuel) then its probably not the fuel starvation, just sounds like he's attention seeking, if you can afford it and hasnt been done for a while give him a nice little service and should all be ok.. just the usuall.. air filter/plugs/leads/ if its a dizzy engine then check it out for damp(check that first, vauxhall never really worked out how to keep them dry) and see if the cap or rotor needs replacing. oh,, just an afterthought!! if its same as the old 1.6 engines im familiar with then its auto-choke!! maybe its sticking on?? Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3 'G' reg 1.6LS The car has just started judder badly due to engine misfiring. It is not just a single cylinder misfire, but is as if I am flicking the accelerator on and off. Is this *slightly* on and off ... or *completely* as in lose all power . If it's slightly , then it's probably a spark plug or lead. Hmmm .. if completely ... well, on cars with fuel injection, I'd go for the hall effect sensor in the distributor, but you car may not have that. Definitely reckon it's ignition related. MH.
