Here's an article on a new law that requires airlines to pay up to $800 for involuntary bumps. http://tinyurl.com/5hdsej Interesting article, and thanks for posting the _link_ Judith! A few folks suggested that this was an empty gesture, and I'd have to agree. Rather than deal with the bigger problems facing air travelers... increasing cost of tickets, excessive flight delays, equipment safety concerns... the Department of Transportation implemented some rules that will only impact 1 in 10,000 passengers. If given the choice... being paid $400 for a flight delay, or getting to a destination on time... I'd imagine that most travelers would prefer the latter. It would have been more impressive to see the Department of Transportation come up with a plan to reduce delays at airports such as Newark, JFK, San Francisco, etc. Best regards, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it NewsGuy.Com Today I was listening to the finance channel. Any chance they're the ones who said that global warming was on a time out ? Cin In the words of Peter Sellers, the are going to bimp us all. Peter Sellers is one of my favorite comedians, so it was a little annoying to see Steve Martin take on the role of Inspector Clouseau in the recent Pink Panther remake. One of my favorite Seller's exchanges/scenes... Clouseau: Does yer dewg bite? Inn Keeper: No Clouseau: Nice Doggy (dog snarls and bites him) Clouseau: I thought you said yer dewg did not bite! Inn Keeper: Zat... iz not my dog! Best regards, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it NewsGuy.Com Steve Martin does a great Steve Martin imitation which hasn't been funny for years. I remember when he was in a movie called Cheaper by the Dozen, which had nothing to do with the original book or movie. When asked if he tried to be true to the story he said, Oh, that was an old movie, this is different . Then why did he trade on the name? Exactly! Most of these horrible remakes are quick to distance themselves from the original story, but stay close enough to trade on the name as you mentioned. Martin has the unique distinction of starring in two terrible remakes... Cheaper By The Dozen & Pink Panther... and there have been some other stinkers over the past few years... Tom Hanks / The Ladykillers Sylvester Stallone / Get Carter Nicholas Cage / The Wicker Man LL Cool J / Rollerball Mark Wahlberg / Planet Of The Apes Kurt Russell / Poseidon Ed Norton / The Italian Job Best regards, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it NewsGuy.Com The other night I was up pretty late channel surfing and there wasn't anything real exciting on worth watching. I stumbled on an old episode of Diff'rent Strokes that I would usually skip over, but hesitated when I noticed someone that resembled Andrew Dice Clay. He was a bit younger but it was actually him playing a character name Crazy Larry , and the plot was as awful as you could image. Stations like TVLand are usually a good cure for insomnia. Rich I haven't see his appearance in Different Strokes , but the Diceman has popped up on some unexpected TV shows during his career. Aside from the Crazy Larry gig, he appeared on a few episodes of M*A*S*H , Crime Story & Rugrats . I didn't see him in M*A*S*H or the Rugrats , but he actually did a pretty decent job during his stint on Crime Story . Best regards, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it NewsGuy.Com I didn't realize he started acting as far back as M*A*S*H . I think the show's been in syndication since the series ended so I wouldn't be surprised if I eventually stumble on that one too. A lot of actors are also splitting time with movies and doing voices for cartoons. If Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz can do three versions of Shrek on the side, why not? : ) Rich I couldn't imagine Andrew Clay appearing in a M*A*S*H episode, so I dug around and was able to turn up the following clip... http://youtube.com/watch?v=XfR15qOYwl0&feature=related One person noted that he sounds like a drunk Vinnie Barbarino, and I'd have agree with his assessment. I'm guessing that the Diceman didn't earn an Emmy nomination for this performance lol. Best regards, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it NewsGuy.Com Thanks for the _link_. The Barbarino comparison is a bit harsh but I guess you have to start somewhere. : ) Rich He seemed a bit out of place in M*A*S*H , but was definitely in his element when he appeared in Crime Story for several episodes. Love him or hate him, I heard somewhere that he's the only comedian to sellout Madison Square Garden 2 nights in a row, so he enjoyed some popularity & success for a period of time. We *have* succeeded in taking care of food, shelter, and safety, regardless of the price of gas, airline tickets, or even your favorite breakfast cereal. These are very minor problems compared to arguing with a lion or grizzly bear over who gets to eat that deer. Unfortunately, that regardless of price is a major problem. It's called priorities . For a change, for awhile, we *might* actually have to concentrate again on food, shelter, and safety , and stop concentrating on ipods, big-screen TVs, new cars because the old one is three years old and needs tires, and flying to Florida to see what is going on with Walt Disney's legacy. Etc., etc., etc. The consumer generation needs to learn what we old timers already know. Costco seems to be very in tune with the consumer generation... as you walk into the store's entrance you're greeted by 60 flat screen tv's, a wide assortment of digital cameras, and several cases of jewelry... and have to walk past all of those goodies before getting to a meat or produce department. It's actually kind of fun seeing the contents of shopping carts when everyone diverges on the check-out stands. We pulled up with diapers, bottled water, toothpaste, bananas, etc... and the gentlemen next to us rolled up with a large plasma tv, several cans of chili & a 12-pack of Coke. We may have addressed our priorities, but he was going to have one heckuva weekend lol. One weekend versus a lifetime of joy . . . some choice! It all worked out in the end! lol We took Isabella to a music-in-the-park event that weekend, and it was great fun. She walked around waving & blowing kisses to everyone, and would stop to dance (bounce) when a particular song caught her interest. She has a great sense of rhythm, something she did not inherit from dad Best regards, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it NewsGuy.Com

I really think actors and directors with less to work with just had more talent. Additionally, only a couple of % held star status compared to now where anyone on mainstream public airwaves is a celebrity. They can be anything from a local sheriff constantly updating on a case they are actually screwing up, a lettuce head on Fox news or some boorish child who gets arrested for DUI.

Rich Interesting how far a guy can go doing a bad imitation of an Italian. It's like a white guy doing black face comedy. Then there is finding the grubbiest misrepresentation of Italians and getting a bunch of cafones who are willing to play the part. The Sopranos always reminded me of times in American history when black people in films had to play slow witted yazza mista... characters and make big eyes to please an audience of morons.

Rich Airlines aren't destabilized because of fares, it's because of incredible fuel prices, incredible add on taxes and fees, union occupation of airports and generally horrible mismanagement. Let them fail. As a slightly related [and slightly vulgar] comment on the quality of life in this country, I point you to this short post [3 paragraphs] on one of my favorite blogs: Tamara K, Anus niveus, stupor mundi. http://booksbikesboomsticks.blogspot.com/2008/04/anus-niveus-stupor-m... [Certainly a subject *I* hadn't heard about before, either!]
