butter boats Way OT - Butter Question
My roommate is a lovely woman, but she has one very strange habit that I find pretty repulsive. She stores the butter dish on the kitchen counter instead of the refrigerator. She does this so the butter will be soft and easy to spread whenever she needs it, and she said that she's never known anybody who stores butter in the refrigerator like I do. I am SO not a germophobic person, but this really grosses me out. After all, butter is a freaking dairy product and it's stored in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. I'm quite sure there's a reason for that. It just seems to me that this butter is a breeding ground for all sorts of bacteria and diseases and it just gives me the heebie jeebies to see her eating it after I see how long it's been sitting out. Does anybody else store their butter outside of the refrigerator? I'm talking actual butter, not tubs of margerine. Is this a regional thing? The roommate is from Virginia, I've been in California most of my life and my family are New York natives. I've just never heard of such a thing and it's just grossing me out. Bigolhomo

Honey, I feel your pain... My MIL did the same thing until I bought her this neat little dish called a Butter Boat . It's a covered ceramic dish that holds the butter brick which sits inside of a slightly larger ceramic dish that you fill with cold water every 3 days. Keeps the butter perfectly spreadable, yet chilled enough to prevent RANCIDITY! (did I say.. ewww ?) Pamela *Remember my name... You'll be screaming it later!* Google Me, This!

Bigolhomo I feel your (disgust.) I think it might be a southern thing..... correct me if I am wrong....... but my family did the same thing. I survived, and never had food poisoning, but. MY butter goes in the refrigerator. As does the peanut butter. And just about everything else. I know true chefs abhore the microwave, but I put the butter and the ice cream and anything else that needs to be soft (get your minds out of the gutter) in for 5 seconds.

She stores the butter dish on the kitchen counter instead of the refrigerator.<<<< I take butter out of the fridge a half hour before meal time so it's easier to spread. Other than that I store it inside the fridge. (`*·.¸(`*·.¸¸.·*´)¸.·*´) «´¨ `Buttercup ´¨`» (¸.·'´`(¸*·'´'·.*`)`'·. ¸) How do you like them apples? Is this a regional thing? My parents are English, lived in Canada, and are now in North Carolina.
