I have been looking to buy both a new toaster oven and a microwave.  I also like the idea of a convection oven.  There are Microwave/Convection combinations and Toaster Oven/Convection combinations.  Which is a better combination?  If I were to go with a Microwave/Convection  is there a down side vs. just getting a regular microwave. Next, any recommendations for a specific brand of Microwave whether it be GE, Sharp, etc.  I'm one person so I am not looking for a huge microwave. 1.0 cubic or below is more than adequate for me. Thank you in advance for you suggestions.

As several have pointed out on this newsgroup recently, what makes a toaster good and what makes an oven good are very much at odds with each other. If you really, really like good toast, a toaster oven isn't likely to provide it. for many years we had an over the range microwave and a toaster oven.  The small toaster oven was handy for a quick reheat, a couple of potatoes, garlic bread, etc.  For regular toast, it was OK, but nothing to rave about. Two weeks ago we replaced the microwave with a combo convection oven and the toaster oven with a plain toaster.  So far, this seems to be a good combination.  Plain old toast is better, the mw is more powerful than the old one, and the convection portion is handy as is the fast bake option. Two weeks is not enough to say if it is perfect, but do consider it. We bought a GE Profile. It is the only one that has all the feature we wanted, but GE is not my first choice in brands.  Time will tell. Thank you in advance for you suggestions. I realize that this post is nearly a month old but I'll respond anyway. We recently (2 days ago) recieved a Whirlpool Convection Microwave ($299 + $15 shipping from costco.com). The idea was to replace our old, 500 watt microwave with something more powerfull, be able to get rid of our toaster oven, and to have a convection oven to boot. So far it seems like it was a good choice. Although it's bigger than you'd need at 1.5CU and I'm not sure how much smaller they come. The only downside so far is that we formerly may have had something cooking in the microwave and toaster oven at the same time. Now we only have the one unit, so we have to plan meals a little differently.
