panasonic 58 in plasma Panasonic 58" TH-58PX60U good?

About 2238. total price delivered (threshold)... Seems about as good a deal as can be found for a big plasma. Or is it? That's a pretty fair deal for that particular monitor as long as it's not an online retailer. If so, you could probably find a slightly better deal on that particular model online, however I'd be very careful about warranties and returns. It has solid positive ratings and for that price range under $3,000 at that size, is probably among the top 3 or 4 monitors to shoot for. If you're setting it up youself, especially if you're hanging it on a wall, get a 2nd person to help as all those larger sized flat panels are pretty damn heavy. T.B.

Why not? i have the 50 inch.version. it is great. www.abtelectronics.com is where i got it. they are a huge chicago retailer. very legitimate. check walmart for price, ABT will match and deliver it. i have found them to be a very solid outfit. they are out of state as well which can be a good thing.

About 2238. total price delivered (threshold)... Seems about as good a deal as can be found for a big plasma. Or is it? You have to go plasma above 50 for it to be any good. I bought the 58 unit two weeks ago seeing it on sale at a similarly great price and am very happy with it with a couple of minor caveats. First, if you have a cd/dvd p_layer_ and hook it up, the tv must be on even if you are just playing a cd. In fact, when you turn on the cd/dvd p_layer_, it will automatically turn on the tv to the dvd mode. Second, I have Comcast digital and use Comcast's remote control. I programmed Comcast's remote control to turn the plasma tv on and off, but I cannot figure out how to use Comcast's remote to swtich from tv to dvd and back. So I must use the Panasonic remote control for that. It would be nice to be able to limit use to one remote control.

About 2238. total price delivered (threshold)... Seems about as good a deal as can be found for a big plasma. Or is it? Why plasma? Plasma tvs generally produce richer color, deeper blacks and less digital smearing in moving images than an LCD monitor. A Plasma tv can be better viewed if you're stuck watching it at an angle and not directly in front of the screen versus an LCD monitor. Also, the fear of burn-in with non-moving images (such as video games) is much less of an issue than it was a few years ago although LCD still holds the edge in that particular issue which is why LCDs are always recommended as a computer monitor. LCDs are considered a better choice for brightly lit rooms though. The half-life (time it takes for the brightness and color saturation to degrade and dim to 50% over about 50,000 hours worth of use) for both monitors is about the same now as well. Plasmas are made in larger screen sizes than LCDs (I don't even think a 60 LCD is available yet for consumers) although that gap is closing fast. The huge price difference for the same size display between LCD and Plasma is no longer an issue anymore either. The only real disadvantage Plasma tvs have over LCDs now for home theater/tv useage is that they use a *lot* more electricity than an LCD monitor. T.B.

Neither of those caveats will affect me, so it looks like I'm gonna bite down on this sucker... Sounds like a good deal. Where'd you get it?
