I plan to install speaker wires in my new house. Does anybody know where to get those speaker wire jack/plug with wall plate? So far I've tried Radio Shack, Home Depot and Builder Square with no luck? Thanks. Adrian

You might go back to Radio Shack and try to find a more knowledgable saleman. If that fails, try looking in their full catalog. RS did have wall plates for mounting on standard electrical boxes with various speaker connections as of about 6 months ago. If that doesn't work out, you can always just buy blank plates and drill holes for them to mount phono jacks.

If that doesn't work out, you can always just buy blank plates and drill holes for them to mount phono jacks. That's exactly what I did, except I used spring-loaded speaker terminals (the kind that's on the back of amps and speakers) instead of phono jacks. That enabled me to use regular speaker cable from the jack to the speaker w/o any soldering. The plate was a generic plate the wiring guys put up after the wiring was done. Radio shack should have the parts you need.

Niles Audio makes the cadillac of speaker terminal plates. They are gold plated and take either bare wire or banana plugs. Try your local hifi dealer (not Circuit City and their ilk) - someone who carries or installs hifi gear (NAD, Soundstream, Macintosh, etc.
