Not exactly the answer the OP was looking for, especially as you are not really describing a cure to the problem - but I suppose that's the best response you can expect from a PENTEL-CABLE user.

I am using Norton 360 with IE7. When I am away from my computer for a few minutes, my connection is lost. Any ideas? Malware that starts up when it thinks you're not looking? ; ) Then your ISP shuts it down? Do you have any lights on your modem to watch to see if data is being transmitted before the connection is dropped? Otherwise, use some kind of monitor so you know what the connection was doing while you stopped looking. E.g. connection properties would show you at least sent and received byte counts. You could make an Alt-PrintScrn of that, view it with clipbrd, and then compare the statistics when you came back. Etc. HTH Robert Aldwinckle

Not exactly the answer the OP was looking for, especially as you are not really describing a cure to the problem - but I suppose that's the best response you can expect from a PENTEL-CABLE user. Nothing wrong with my ISP, thankyouverymuch: Faster download/upload speeds, much more reliable, and much more reasonable monthly sub_script_ion charge than any of the competition in my li'l neck of the woods. [Not a lot of demand for any internet access on Amish farms.] You will note, however, that I'm accessing this newsgroup via the *free* and more reliable MS newsserver, news://msnews.microsoft.com. I fully believe that Norton 360 *is* the problem, especially if OP is running Vista.

It's pretty much the answer I would give. Norton causes problems with any version of Windows released during this century.
