I'm curious to know what you think is the best value for a socket-A CPU/mobo nowadays? I'd prefer DDR and onboard audio. I'm boggled by all the choices out there.

Others may like the idea of a separate video card, and a nice KT333 motherboard like the MSI KT3 Ultra($80) used with pc2700 ddr ram. The KT3 Ultra also has builtin sound and USB2. That sounds good. I have a video card that is adequate (GeForceMX 2 32 M

. I'm thinking AthlonXP (1500-1700)/mobo/256 MB DDR SDRAM. XPs aren't too expensive. I want to get all three for between 2 and 3 hundred. If I'm pushing 3 hun I want a new case too. The occasion is that I'm finally getting broadband, and I want a sys that can keep up.

The KT3 Ultra also has builtin sound and USB2. It doesn't have USB2, unless you buy the Ultra ARU or the Ultra2.

I'm curious to know what you think is the best value for a socket-A CPU/mobo nowadays? I'd prefer DDR and onboard audio. I'm boggled by all the choices out there. Gigabyte GA-7VKML has everything, Sound, LAN, Video (all of which you can disable) and is very cheap. I have this paired up with a XP1800 running 24/7 for 2 months with no problem at all under W2k. I do not use any USB devices though so cannot comment on that side but in every other way it seems fine for such a cheap board. Andy
