I was looking at some package specials for the Dominican Republic where they have all inclusive resorts but from what I read the snorkeling in the DR isn't very good.  Plus I read that the city in DR isn't worth visiting, so it seems that we'd be stuck at the resort. I'm curious about some other possibilities.  From what I read Cancun is not bad for city life & snorkeling.  Are there some other popular destinations?  The only place I've been snorkeling was in Hawaii and it was fantastic.  I spent hours snorkeling at a time.  So I'm hoping to find a spot like that in the Caribbean. BTW we're limited to specials/promotions which are usually all-inclusive because we're trying to go 3 weeks from now so the only way is through last minute offers.  We live in Paris so the round trip air fare is more expensive than most of the package deals with hotel included!
