high school basketball measurements ESPN's Chad Ford: Walker, Nuggets, O'Brien, Nate Robinson, and draft scouting

http://tinyurl.com/6x5cg The interesting stuff for Celtics fans is Ford's assertion that the Celtics want to retain Walker for $7 million-$8 million per year and that's a steal. Plus, Ford defending O'Brien in Philadelphia. For Sonics fans, Ford's opinion on the Nuggets and Nate Robinson's draftability.

From Bill Simmons' Quote of the Day archive, ESPN's Chad Ford on NBA Draft prospect Darko Milicic, in the June 23rd, 2003 issue of ESPN the Magazine: Darko is really one of a kind. He runs the floor, handles the ball, shoots an NBA three and plays with his back to the basket. So you can slot him at the 3, 4 or 5. Okay, a few other guys can do that, too, but what sets Darko apart is his toughness in the post ... Fact is, Darko plays in attack mode at both ends of the floor. The more you push, the more he pushes back. Wow! Attack mode!

http://tinyurl.com/6x5cg The interesting stuff for Celtics fans is Ford's assertion that the Celtics want to retain Walker for $7 million-$8 million per year and that's a steal. Plus, Ford defending O'Brien in Philadelphia. That is not a steal. Not by the C's at least. I will say it right here, right now. The C's need to avoid the situation with Walker they were in before. They can not pay him any amount or give him any length of contract that he wields any type of power. Furthermore, while he has played better, he has done it with less than he has before. Fewer minutes, fewer shots and handling the ball less. Hs contribution to the team has been as a MAJOR complementary part. He is no longer the lead p_layer_. There is no denying that Walker had a big hand in the 11-2 mark since his return, but it's still the regular season. The C's are on target for a 40+ win season again and not a _title_. The INTERESTING thing is to see how the C's brass goes. If they are willing to re-sign Antoine to a long term contract with the intention of keeping him here, it tells me that they are more concerned with putting asses in the seats than with winning a _title_. I happen think the C's have a very deep and versatile roster. I am not over my disappointment Pierce and his lack of leadership. I would not mind at all if the C's packaged both Antoine and/or Paul in some kind of blockbuster trade. In a heartbeat, I'd replace them with, say Elton Brand and Grant Hill if it were at all possible.

I still wouldn't be surprised if Milicic turned into a p_layer_, though. The situation he's in, especially with Larry Brown as coach, is not especially a conducive one to helping raw rookies show their abilities. Cheers, Chris Hafner
