(David K. Bradley) writes: [Rumor that Cannondale has filed for bankruptcy because of patent infringement] The new (3.0-series) Cannondale _frame_s appear to not violate the patent, so Cannondale's income-generating ability seems to be unimpaired. Just for the hell of it, I looked up all the little numbers printed on the dropouts of my Cannondale. Pat # 4605241 covers the Racing Bicycle _frame_set. I was amazed at the other things they had patented. For example: #4808147 ADjustable Bottom Bracket Assembly for Bicycles. #4741548 Bicycle Chain Hanger. #4733835 Cable Guide for Bicycles. #4688749 Bicycle Brake Cable Stop and Rear Carrier Rack Attachment Bracket. #4671438 Attachment System for Mounting a Pannier on a Bicycle Carrier Rack. #4666071 Bicycle Rear Carrier Rack. #4513985 Bicycle _frame_ Seat Stays. #4271996 Bottle Mount and Bottle for Bicycles. I half expected to see patents for things like The Gunk that Gets All Over Your Chain Just After You've Installed It. Maybe that's still pending. On an extremely unrelated note, there are at least four patents for Nuclear Fusion Reactor. Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Environmental Institute of Michigan, and Dubble Whammy, Inc are some of the entities holding them. Jim Carson Computer Systems Laboratory
