The deal included a signing bonus of $6 million and has roster bonuses of $500,000 in the final three years of the contract. with all the talk about getting the most money and shunning the Pats offer of 17.5 mill, this really isn't all that great a deal, essentially a 2 year contract for a little over 9 mill and about 1 mill less avg. than what the Pats were rumored to be offering. that's not huge guaranteed money and a very cuttable contract after 2 years (3.5 mill salary in 08', .5 mill roster bonus, with a unamortized bonus hit of 3.6 mill for a net gain in cap of +.4 mill in year 08' if cut, even better numbers if cut after June1). if the Pats had offered anywhere close to the same bonus then is would have been just as good to stick around in a system you had done well in. but, in the end, I do think he was feeling under appreciated and looking for a good reason to go elsewhere.

WR | David Givens | Tennessee Titans | Transaction Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans WR David Givens signed a five-year, $24 million contract(Which he'll never see) with _base_ salaries of $800,000 (2006), $2.5 million (Maybe) (2007), $3.5 million(He won't see a cent of this or anything contracted for after this.)(2008), $3.5 million (2009), and $4.2 million (2010). The deal included a signing bonus of $6 million and has roster bonuses of $500,000 in the final three years of the contract .(More money he'll never see) So Realistically, he signed a 2 yr deal worth 9.3 million. Not too shabby for a 7th round pick.

No, I'm pretty sure he would have stayed if the money was right. It just wasn't. No receiver his age is going to think Geez, I may suck with the team I go to and be cut in two years when they find that out. No, I'm sure he feels pretty certain that, barring injury, the team will feel he's worth playing out that contract, as it's not really backloaded. Had the Pats matched that offer, I'm pretty sure he would have stayed.

Had the Pats matched that offer, I'm pretty sure he would have stayed. again, it depends on the bonus money from the Pats. we'll probably never know the actually details the Pats offered but if it were close in bonus, then the first 2 years of the deal would have been very close and that's all there is assured to this deal. his deal with the Titans has the first 2 years is a little over 4.5 avg, so not bad with cap hits of 2 and 3.7 mill, but year 3 and 4 have a cap hit of 5.2, still not real bad, but you better be playing well or as I said, in year 3 they actually gain .4 mill in cap space by cutting him. its always in the details ....
