bras inside swimwear Bilateral Mastectomy & Swimwear
can, Barb's message got me thinking that if I can find a reasonably-full-coverage affordable swimsuit with the bra part attached only around the edges, I can probably just cut the bra part away and make it work. This group is a great sounding board & assistance with our special issues! Thanks, Ann T. I hope you can find that suit.  Sounds like it should work just fine for you! Barb my pal janice in WA had both breasts removed and she's now had two new ones constructed and she says it didn't hurt at all.  just a bit of stretchin and inserting some plastic fillers. now she is having some nipples made - no one will ever know

my pal janice in WA had both breasts removed and she's now had two new ones constructed and she says it didn't hurt at all.  just a bit of stretchin and inserting some plastic fillers. now she is having some nipples made - no one will ever know I'm well aware that reconstruction is an option . . . but that word option works both ways.   I fully support women who choose to go the reconstruction route.  For many, reconstruction is needed to feel comfortable and positive after mastectomy. That's completely understandable. But, in my personal circumstances, I don't see the point of more surgery only to apply an imperfectly simulated version of an organ that has no functional purpose for me.  I'm not a supermodel, I don't have babies to nurse (and the reconstructed version can't do that anyway), etc. Why bother?  For good or ill, my appearance is not on my A-list of reasons to do *anything*. I was always small-breasted, and now I'm flat.  Not a big deal to me. Others may feel differently, and if so should do differently. Prostheses work fine for semi-formal wear, and I don't mind people seeing me flat in casual settings.  Should I be ashamed that I've had breast cancer?  Is it something I need to hide? Apologies if I've taken you wrong; I'm afraid I'm a little cranky on this subject! <g Ann T. Remove 'dontsendspam' from address to reply by email

well she likes it but you could run into a dummy surgeon who will make a mess i guess - thing is there is hardly any surgery involved - just a bladder which is inflated every day I understand that it's not the most major surgery ever.  But why would I have even minor surgery, for (what is for me) absolutely no reason at all?   One of the women from my breast cancer survivors rowing team recently had surgery to insert expander-type implants, as you're describing. She's doing very well, and I'm happy that she has been able to get the surgery, as it's important to her.   However, she is currently unable to row for much of the summer while there's healing going on, and discomfort from the expanders.  I'm just not willing to give up things like that, in order to have permanent rather than removable simulated breasts.  Not a priority in my life_style_. It's just *me* . . . I don't expect or even encourage anyone else to share my (possibly) goofy outlook <grin! Ann T. Remove 'dontsendspam' from address to reply by email
