is talking about just replacing the whole tranny. I think it might be simpler than that. If anyone has any positive feedback on this, feel free to post replies. Thanks. PS - this is my work car. MY car is a 5.0 Mustang! My wife drives a family Camry also though.

I kinda wonder about the Camry lines... They are made in Kentucky right? Maybe this has something to do with the problems I keep hearing about in the Camrys. People putting in their hours at the plant and not caring about the job they do or something I guess? ==================================== I work at a Toyota dealership and can honestly say that we have no more complaints from customers owning North American produced cars vs Japanese production. The transmissions still all come from Japan, though some engines are being built in North America. Dammit Jim! I'm an Automotive Service Technician, not a mechanic!! Steve S.

Jay wrote, YOU drive a Mustang 5.0, huh? About the least sophisticated (read most crude) sports car on the road, eh? ================================== Had an 86 Mustang 5.0 for a couple of years, and you're right, it was crude. Also incredibly effective, and probably the best bang for the buck out there. Gobs of low-end torque, that incomparable V-8 rumble, surprisingly good high-speed cruiser. Got 27mpg cruising at 80. Not everyone is totally entranced with peaky, expensive to buy and maintain, sports cars that derive their power from a multitude of valves, cams, and turbo or super chargers. Simply a matter of taste. Dammit Jim! I'm an Automotive Service Technician, not a mechanic!! Steve S.

upshifts too early, then downshifts, then slams into second. The dealer is talking about just replacing the whole tranny. I think it might be simpler than that. wait till your mustang gets about 60,000 miles and you will see junk Do you have one? I ask because my experience says you're wrong. My 5 liter LX runs strong as ever with 86,000 miles on it. I bought it with 15,000 on it, and so far I've had to put a starter, alternator, and a fuel pump relay on it. Some of you super reliability conscious guys will still croak that that's a lot of parts, but all 3 of them combined cost less than a lone starter or alternator for any Japanese make I've heard of. One of my buddies had an 86 GT that he hammered for 133,000 miles before selling it. The car was so fast and ran so strong that I would have bought it if I had the money to purchase/insure another vehicle. These cars have a lot of power, and it's easy to imagine any dumb shit could ruin a rear, clutch or trans in one without any problem. My 'Stang is well maintained, but definitely not pampered. I'm reading the newsgroup for Toyota info because I'm thinking about replacing my S10 with either a Tacoma or Tundra. I'm also considering another S10. It's been a great vehicle as well. In my opinion, American cars get an unnecessarily bad rap here. I keep my mouth shut about it, but not when it's contrary to my direct experiences. Take care, Tim
