Date: 11/17/02 9:29 AM Central Standard Time So is it totally crazy to think of carrying a pony for the rare situation in which I might want to spend only a very short time underwater? Nope. I have a rig that is used specifically for short stints underwater. I use it for exploration, i.e. going to a spring way out in the woods to have a look and see if it warrants coming back with 120 lbs of gear to do a real dive, for artifact hunting in shallow water, hunting scallops, etc. I don't get in my canoe without it. It consists of a 19 cf pony attached to a plastic backplate and harness. The reg has one second stage and a pressure guage. No frills, no BC, just the bare essentials. The whole kit weighs about 10 lbs., is not noticeable on long walks, and allows me to go underwater and stay there for a little while. I carry an al80 tank and a fill whip if I plan on doing more than 19cf of staying underwater. Works like a champ. Ron W.

more than 19cf of staying underwater. Works like a champ. Ron W. I bet, though, this equipment will cost him close to a full scuba setup, and the full thing is much more versatile for him. Adam

From: Adam Helberg helbe...@earth_link_.net Date: 11/20/02 4:53 PM Central Standard Time I bet, though, this equipment will cost him close to a full scuba setup, and the full thing is much more versatile for him. Adam It was actually pretty cheap to piece together. Nothing fancy required and things like the fill whip can be built a lot cheaper than they are bought assembled. I used an old US Divers molded plate with harness I bought at a yard sale for 5 bucks, couple of hose clamps to attach the tank to the plate, a 19 ft pony and a _base_ment reg., as not much is required to breath at 5-10 feet. It works well for what I use it for, but I do things a litle different ;o) Ron W.

;o) Ron W. True his use does not demand high quality equipment and acquiring used is OK for this use. But if he goes to a scuba show and tries to buy the stuff new I still think he can buy a real Scuba package for about the same price. Adam
