are you divers that travel alot to dive put up with this? Doug I travel a fair bit, almost always with scuba gear (at least when I'm travelling to a location where diving is worthwhile). I've never been charged extra just because it's scuba gear, although I haven't travelled on Delta in quite a while. My recent experiences (within the last six months) include American, United, Singapore Air, Thai, Malaysian, Alaskan and Southwest. In every case, a travel bag with BP/wings, regs, wetsuit, light, etc., etc. is checked baggage. I've also been through the more rigourous screening a few times where the bag is x-rayed then opened and inspected. The closest I've come to paying extra was on a Thai Airways flight between Penang and Bangkok, where they decided my luggage was a bit overweight. Fortunately my travelling partner for the day had no checked baggage, and they allowed me to use his allotment (try that on an American carrier!). I'd also be interested in hearing any stories about people being charged extra just because their baggage happens to include scuba gear. Like I said, I haven't flown Delta in quite a while, so I don't have any recent experience with them, and would be interested in hearing anyone else's story. Alan

Alan If BA means Bahamas Air, here's a warning: Hubby and I went from Andros Island (Small Hope Bay Resort) to Grand Bahama through Nasaau on Bahamas Air last November and Bahamas Air charged us for overweight luggage because it was a domestic flight (only allowed 20 kg max per person - I think). We have island hopped in the Bahamas many times and this was the very first time this has happened. We received no warning from our travel agent so I am assuming she didn't know anything about it either. We didn't have scuba gear but did have golf clubs. Jo

If BA means Bahamas Air, here's a warning: BA is British Airways. The warning should have been that old baggage rules tend to be replaced by new rules these days, and many of the rules are different from airline to airline and can be quite complicated. BA is no exception. See, http://www.britishairways.com/travel/siteindex/public/en_

Besides, trains don't go to Coz.<< Well, trains don't seem to go a lot of places in the US either... At least passenger trains... <grin You can't take a train to Coz, but you can drive there... One of these days, I'm going to drive there... Should be an interesting excursion... There's the problem with the Mexican gun laws that kind of deter me though... I guess I'll stick with Florida for awhile...

I will also say I travel to Mexico (living in Phoenix) several times a year and busses do not go to Coz either .<< But they get close... You can get a bus to Playa del Carmen and take the ferry from there to Coz...

Scuba Equipment One item of scuba equipment is accepted as checked baggage with an $80 fee assess for domestic travel. For purposes of scuba equipment, one item is defined as one or a combination of the following: Guys, notice that it says for domestic only. I've flown with my huge Pelican case full of gear on Delta many times. I just got off a Delta jet yesterday with some of my gear. Never paid a surcharge. If anyone has ever paid, tell us what flight and how much gear you've had. One of two cases: 1.) they actually do charge this on domestic flights (all mine have been international) 2.) they only apply the rule when you've got a TON of gear (and my Pelican case is big)
