There's the problem with the Mexican gun laws that kind of deter me though... I guess I'll stick with Florida for awhile... I once met a guy that claims to have smuggled some motorcycles to Mexico city.  When he realized what would happen if he was caught with a gun, he threw parts out the window every few miles.

I met a guy running a dive shop on my first trip to Coz that drove a beater van down from CA. A Coz friend of mine took her pickup down there twelve years ago and has yet to purchase license plates - still has 1990 Texas plates.  She can't even get Mex plates because she didn't pay import taxes for it - it just showed up one day and never left.  I'm not clear on the legal issue, but if it was a problem, one would think it should've surfaced by now. She's finally decided they don't really care too much about it.

I will also say I travel to Mexico (living in Phoenix) several times a year and  busses do not go to Coz either .<< But they get close... You can get a bus to Playa del Carmen and take the ferry from there to Coz... Only $88 from Puebla and they show movies.

I once met a guy that claims to have smuggled some motorcycles to Mexico city.  When he realized what would happen if he was caught with a gun, he threw parts out the window every few miles<< I've been down across the border a few times and had a gun with me, but it was just on the border towns and they don't check you that closely around there... If I had gone further south, they have a second _layer_ of immigration control (or whatever they call it) and I suspect the chance of getting searched is slightly higher... I've gone to Coz and never had my bags searched, so if I had wanted to smuggle one in, it would have been possible... The problem is that my luck would have it that the one time I decide to do something like that, it will be the time that my bag gets searched...

Only $88 from Puebla and they show movies<< But Puebla, Mexico is near southeast of Mexico City... How does that help you getting from the US?  Do you have to take a bus from the US to Mexico City or Puebla and then from there to Playa del Carmen? Ok, this has got me curious now, so I called one of the local Mexican bus companies here in Houston to see what it would take to get to Playa del Carmen... Of course, they don't go there, so I suggested Cancun since I know that buses go from Cancun to Playa del Carmen... Nope, no luck there... They listed a lot of cities that they do go to, but my Mexican geography knowledge is quite lacking... Since you had mentioned Puebla and since it is near Mexico City, I figured that if I can get to Mexico City then there must be a way to get to Playa del Carmen (possibly via Puebla)... They said that they do serve Mexico City (they call it El Capitan apparently) and it costs $101 (one way) to get there from Houston... Rough guess is that it should be possible to get to Coz from the US, but it might definitely be via the 'scenic route'... I've taken a bus across the US before and once was enough for me... Definitely not something that you do if you are in a hurry to get somewhere...
